The Alpujarra is the Southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and the valley formed by the Sierra Contraviesa, Sierra Gador and Sierra de Lujar. The Sierra Nevada mountains span the provinces of Granada and Almeria with the highest peaks and the ski resort in the Western Sierra Nevada (Granada provinces) and the lower slopes of the Eastern Sierra Nevada (Almeria Province).
